Video Surveillance

As in the IP Telephony field, the video surveillance industry is currently undergoing a great migration to the IP (data) network. Traditional surveillance systems were analog, and completely standalone, requiring their own seperate coaxial and power cables, VCRs and later DVRs for recording.

The appearance of the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) allowed for partial integration to the data network and remote viewing & control.

Video surveillance now has the capability to run entirely on the IP data network. As with IP Telephony, the cameras can now utilize the same infrastructure, in part or in whole, as the data & voice systems do.
